The 2009 trip will be the shortest possible from Florida to Alaska.  This is approximately 3,600 miles one way and will allow bikers who can only take off two weeks from work to go.  If you just want to get to Alaska to say "I've done it!", then this one is for you!  This will be a direct route from St. Augustine to St. Louis, then up thru North Dakota, then on TransCanada Highways to Hyder, Alaska.  You, of course, can jump in at various check in points.

This will be 500-600 miles a day.  After a full day of exploring Hyder, its back home!

July 11, 2007 ... the road to Salmon Glacier was still blocked by snow and the salmon aren't in yet.  So, I am thinking about doing this 2009 trip later in July so we can arrive there the last week of July to ensure that the road will be open and the salmon should be running.

Then, starting in 2010, it will be back to Fairbanks via different routes such as Minnesota one year, Montana another year, New Mexico another year, etc.  Already, for 2010, I am looking at going up through Michigan so we can hit cooler weather right past Indiana, enjoy a spectacular day and a half swinging North and West around Lake Superior.    If the 2009 trip doesn't draw riders, I will drop that and every year will be a version of 2008's trip with a full week in Alaska.

So, odd number years may be Hyder and even number years will be Fairbanks and a week touring.
