16th Annual Florida to Alaska and back adventure scheduled for July 1, 2017 -- updates include our three latest riders, Steve and Mary Dahlin from Illinois and Paul Rose from Covington, Georgia!
There is a 50/50 chance I won't be doing this trip but the group is all well set up and they've been emailing back and forth for months and have all made reservations at the lodging suggested.   Feel free to throw your hat in the ring and join the existing group ... most of whom are experienced long distance riders.

Final chapter

July 1, 2017 may be my 16th trip and while I am not registering anyone, you are welcome to "tag along" on your own  So, shoot me an email to DrASL@aol.com if you would like to come along "unofficially".

We have 8 potential bikers as of March 14, 2017 .. Harvey (Ray) Price from Vermont; Brian Revels (South Central Michigan), Cal Brown (St. Petersburg, FL), Jim Pehler (Deltona, FL), Steve and Mary Dahlin (Arlington Heights, Illinois). Paul Rose (Covington, GA) and Mike Tuccelli (St. Augustine area, FL).

When you contact me at DrASL@aol.com, please let me know where you plan to hook up with us (see the schedule), what your plans are after Hyder, and attach a photo of yourself and your bike plus a bio on yourself.  I will then add you to a group email so you can start forming interest groups.

Thanks to Rob Stevens (two-time Alaska travel buddy) -- Canadian Nation Parks are FREE to visit in 2017. You will have to order the pass and have it with you while traveling through. Here's the website http://millionmilesecrets.com/2017/01/05/visit-canadian-national-parks-for-free-in-2017/

Here is the preliminary 2017 route

NO REGISTRATION FEES!    The same as the 15th trip is that there will no registration as I no longer want to be liable for other bikers' accidents and legally, I am just posting a suggested schedule.

There will be no registration (last year it was $200) but donations (minimum $300 -- tax deductible) to SKIHI (see SKIHI.ORG) will be welcome.  All I am asking is that you email me with your name, address, and where you may join the unofficial group.  I will list suggested lodging for each night from Florida to Alaska.  Your return trip home most likely will be influenced by your emailing group members with your plans.

Again, there will be no registration, no ride polo shirts (but you can order one with the 2017 logo), etc.  WHY?   Liability reasons.  In the meanwhile, click this to see what the proposed 2017 run may look like!

Wouldn't you like to be here enjoying temperatures in the 70s instead of the 80s and 90s the States will be sweltering during July 2017?   This is a challenging but doable 18-mile drive from Hyder up a mining road.  This is Bob Summers from the Florida Keys on his magnificent BMW.

After 16 years, I can confidentially say that you won't be disappointed with the scenery starting west of Calgary and especially as we approach Mount Robson and as we go on 37A to Stewart and Hyder.  I still like Alaska Highway and will do that on years divisible by 5 (2020, 2025, etc.) but it is a grinding day by day marathon on roads that may be horrible for hours on end and then another year butter smooth.  Actually, Alaska Highway scenery isn't so great except for around Lake Muncho.

So, if you think you may want to ride completely on "your own", shoot me an email to DrASL@aol.com with your name, address, a photo, and where you may hook up with the group and I will add you to the email group list.
