Nancy Gill and I will be riding together. And I'm doing all this by the seat of my pants. We're both retired and in need of making more memories while we still are able to.
Presently, I'm located in DC and Nancy is in Parkersburg, WV. Later, we shall both be together in WV after I ride the motorcycle there. My experience, that's a hard one, I really feel that I need to bone up fast. I used to ride a lot during my H.S. days, stoped for military service, later got a motorcycle again for the 4th. time. I rode until I had a major accident, a school bus pulled out into the hwy and I hit it. I hadn't rode another motorcycle since but, I took up riding a bicycle in a major way to rebuilt my damaged leg and I think thats some cycling experience obtained. How did I happen to get here: I had originally thought of buying a motorcycle in Anchorage from a motorcycle shop there and riding it back to DC. Later, I met my girl-friend Nancy and I told her what I would like to do. She came back saying that she would like to join me.
We got to reading on the internet about others that had and were planning to do an Alaska trip and we came across your site (2011 World's Longest Group Motorcycle Benefit Run). And we both thought that this would be the way to do such a trip. I had located a motorcycle for sale by Eurosport Cycle, Fort Worth, TX and I made the purchase. The motorcycle is being sent to me and I'm waiting to go and pick it up from the trucking terminal after they phone me. I have never rode this motorcycle but, try out one during a Cycle Demo. This motorcycle has no bags, saddle or tail bags, I have them ordered. Both of us have to get motorcycle clothing(everything), too.
Are we ready? No but, were getting there. Will we be ready to go at the time, we're hoping to.
Nancy and I have never rode a motorcycle together. I feel that I need more experience, if it was just me doing this would be plenty enough for me to do. I have Nancy and this is my major concern, both her welfare and mine. I will be making a trip to WVa and the motorcycle will be almost fully loaded with dressing. This is over a 300 mile trip and this trip will be a telling one for me as to how comfrotable I feel in handling the motorcycle. Next I will have Nancy as my passenger and we will get our comfort level up to where it needs to be. If all goes to plan we should be ready to go 17th July. We shall use up all our days in getting prepared from now until time to go.
